As Adjunct Assistant Professor at Fashion Institute of Technology, Sharon Rothman has guided students in developing their original ideas in Fashion Design Art into individually expressive, winning portfolio collections. Her teaching centers around personal mentoring and encouraging design thinking through the spontaneous sketchbook process, developed over twenty years of experimentation and learning from her students’ success.
Her contributions to the students at FIT are many and include designer presentations and critiques, fashion industry panels, and career-focused events. She is proudest of her development of the biannual Art Specialization installation of the Fashion Design AAS Exhibition and the outstanding achievements of her students.
Sharon Rothman’s career as a fashion illustrator spans the decades and reflects evolving fashion style and beauty. Seeing the need for professional community of fashion illustrators, she volunteered extensively for the Graphic Artist’s Guild, co-founding the Fashion Roundtable network. As chair, she organized and hosted portfolio and pricing workshops, initiated the Fashion Roundtable Award, recognizing excellence in fashion Illustration, and was a contributing author to the Guild’s Handbook: Pricing & Ethical Guideline.
